Frank Lloyd Wright Imperial Squares carpet
One of the greatest achievements in Wright’s career was the architectural and interior design of the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo in 1923. This included all the carpets, textiles, furniture, tableware and cutlery for the main dining room and cabaret-restaurant.
Wright designed three carpets for the hotel of which Imperial Squares is the most famous. The carpet corresponds to and complements many of the geometric shapes of the architectural interior.
A finely woven wool carpet, whose golden natural silk in the diamond and pyramid configurations contrasts dramatically with the carpet’s deepest chocolate brown and black background colour.
