Frank Lloyd Wright Coonley II Carpet
Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Avery Coonley Playhouse, Riverside, Illinois 1912.
The design of many of the Frank Lloyd Wright's carpets is influenced by the rectilinear design on Greek vases. This carpet is a good example of this as it shows Mr. Wright's use of geometry. He designed some stained glass windows for the Playhouse, which this carpet complemented. The Triptych (three paneled) window is now in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. A 60 knot interpretation of designs used both architecturally and in the interior furnishing and décor. The design falls within the given parameters - both vertically and horizontally with squares, full and half moons and with one smaller planet seemingly floating in space.
100 knots/square inch. Composition: 100 % wool
Made to order in three different sizes:
6’ x 9’ / 1.8 m x 2.7 m
8’ x 10’ / 2.4 m x 3 m
9’ x 12’ / 2.7 m 3.6 m
Design no. FLW 6005
