Not many people know that the famous rock star Freddie Mercury had a degree in Art and Graphic Design from Ealing Art College and that he used his talent to design the logo for his rock band Queen. A keen collector of art and antiques Freddie became a client of ours and we greatly enjoyed his visits to our shop on the King’s Road. He bought many pieces of Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture from us for his house in Logan Place, Kensington as well as for his apartment in Montreux, Switzerland. Together we designed bespoke furniture, amongst the pieces, a coffee table with large spheres based on a period Art Deco coffee table. He loved it so much we designed and made a second one decorated with silver stars on the large black spheres. When he saw the finished table he joked and said: ‘This is a coffee table for a Rock Star!’ We also designed and made a large Biedermeier double bed for the principal guest bedroom in his house. It was made in blond burr ash with a variety of ormolu mounts as decorations. Another striking piece we made for him was a humorous piece which he christened ‘Leggy Blonde’.

Well, he had some original taste I must admit. I would definitely admire these pieces of furniture somewhere in a vanguard museum or even in a park. But for a living house, or even an office where reviews on Payforessay.net are collected, those are.. too much.
