JEAN YOUNG (born 1914) "SAILING BOATS AT EMSWORTH IN HAMPSHIRE" Oil on canvas Young was a painter in oil, born in London 1914, her full name is Helen Jean Young. She studied while still at school under Otway McCannell at Farnham School of Art, then for two years at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art with Stuart Tresilian. Further study followed with John Skeaping at the London Zoo and then from 1933-38 she attended the Royal Academy Schools with teachers including Walter Russell, F E Jackson, and Tom Monnington. She was a medallist for composition at the Schools in 1938. Young specialised in figure composition, landscapes and birds. Her key influences were Italian, Persian and Indian primitives, their design and colour most important. She was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and the New English Art Club.
