JUDITH WOOD (born 1942)

"HALPENNY BRIDGE, DUBLIN"

Oil

Judith Wood was born in the Lake District and still lives there outside Kendal. She studied art as a main subject during teacher training in the early 1960's at Edge Hill College Ormskirk. She taught the 5 to 7 age group in Liverpool and Cumbria. Upon marriage in 1968 she concentrated on raising a family, but returned to teaching through retraining as a teacher of dyslexic pupils and held a part-time post in Special Needs department of the local comprehensive.

In the late 1980's Wood was encouraged by a friend to paint and attended "Painting in Oils" evening classes to renew her confidence. These were taken by Pat Cleary a member of The Lake Artists Society since 1967. Wood herself became a full member of the society in 1998.

Wood's favourite medium is oil painting, with the paint applied mainly with a palette knife. She enjoys the colour and light of the Impressionists and this is reflected in her work. One of her favourite subjects is children often playing on a beach, or the hens and ducks at home, or indeed any scene where "the light and colour have something special to say"

Exhibitions: Wood has exhibited at The Lake Artists Society annual exhibition in Grasmere since 1990.
