Twin sisters - Marjorie and Dorothy Smith as they then were attended the Birmingham Art School from 1918 -1921 where their main teacher and mentor was Bernard Fleetwood-Walker, R.A.

The two sisters followed similar patterns during their working lifetime and spent much of their early years working for advertising companies in the Midlands. Dorothy for several years, was Head of Design at Cadbury Brothers and with her sister also wrote and illustrated many children's books including "The Kitten That Lost It's Purr", "The Puppy That Lost It's Wag" and several Panda books, the most famous being "The Kitten Book" all published during the 1930's. Their publishers included Blackies, Oxford University Press, Elliott, and Sinclair Books and for six years Dorothy wrote and illustrated the "Magic Coco-Beanie" stories for Cadbury Brothers.

Both sisters showed their work extensively including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions; the Royal Society of British Artists; New English Art Club; Royal Water-colour Society and the Royal Society.

Marjorie Sinclair's work is exhibited at the Royal Academy Permanent Collection, Birmingham Museum, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Stoke on Trent Art Gallery.
