Basil Jonzen (1913 - 1967)

"The Artist and Lovers"

Oil on canvas

Signed and dated on the back

Basil Jonzen studied with Bernard Meninsky at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. He showed very successfully with Redfern Gallery, which in the 1930s sent him Spain and France to paint. He also exhibited at New English Art Club, Tooth and the Royal Society of British Artists.

After war service, as a camouflage specialist, he and his artist wife Karen Jonzen ran a Weekend Art Gallery at their house in Mayfair. They sold many high quality 20th C. art to discerning collectors and National Institutions. Jonzen continued to paint, specialising in landscapes, flowers and portraits and produced some of his best works in later life. Arts Council holds his work.
