Ivan MORSING

(Born 1919)

'View of Goldmine, South Morocco'

Signed and dated 1961

Oil on canvas MORSING was a student of the Arts, Crafts and Design School in 1940, and from 1942 - 1943 of the Art School in Stockholm. From 1947 he travelled extensively to Italy and France, and after 1951 he was a regular visitor of North Africa, and specially Morocco. His paintings have a notable maturity and an individual intensity. His North African theme has an expressive glowing colour scheme, with an almost strict architectural composition. As well as oil landscapes Morsing executed several pastel and gouaches portraits and still-life.

His first exhibition was held at the "Modern Konst I Hemmiljö" in 1946; the Town Hall at Skövde (1952). He held solo shows at the Stockholm Arts Club (1961) with the title "My Moroccan Travels"

His work hangs in the Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm; the Museum of Kalmar, the Museum of Jönköping and the Swedish Embassy in Rabat, Morocco
