Upholstered in black suede

The first chair of this model was designed by the famous Berlin architecht Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) as a reading chair for King Karl Friedrich III of Prussia. Armchairs like this one, inspired by Schinkel's famous original, are very rare and are usually made in oak or mahogany. The original is illustrated in George Himmelheber's book 'Biedermeier Furniture.'
